Proper preparation begins before the first carton is opened. Inspect the flooring, confirm that the room is climate controlled, and make sure the subfloor meets the manufacturer’s requirements.
Inspect all flooring in adequate lighting before installation. Look for visible defects, damage, finish differences, incorrect colors, or unexpected variations in sheen and texture. Do not install a plank that appears questionable.
Natural-looking differences in grain, knots, markings, and color are part of the design. Mix planks from several cartons as you work so these variations are distributed naturally throughout the room.
Important: Installing a plank generally indicates acceptance of its visible appearance. Manufacturer warranties may not cover visible defects after the material has been installed.
Keep unopened cartons flat and fully supported inside a climate-controlled building. Do not store the flooring in a garage, vehicle, driveway, outdoor structure, storage container, or other area without consistent temperature and humidity control.
Titan Surfaces specifies at least 24 hours of acclimation for residential installations and 48 hours for commercial installations. Keep the cartons unopened during this period.
The room must have a working heating and air-conditioning system for at least 48 hours before installation and throughout the life of the floor. Normal indoor conditions should remain between 65°F and 80°F with relative humidity between 35% and 55%.
Laminate flooring should be one of the final materials installed during construction or remodeling. Cabinets, kitchen islands, countertops, vanities, tubs, showers, and other fixed or unusually heavy items should not be installed directly on top of the floating floor.
Titan Surfaces water-resistant laminate is intended for indoor, climate-controlled spaces. It may be installed on, above, or below grade when the jobsite, moisture levels, and subfloor satisfy the manufacturer’s requirements.

Titan laminate is water-resistant, not a moisture barrier. Moisture entering through a slab, crawl space, wall, plumbing system, or surrounding structure must be corrected before installation.
The subfloor must be clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within 3/16 inch over a 10-foot radius in every direction. Moisture testing is required for all subfloor types.
Wood subfloors must have a moisture reading below 12%. Secure loose panels or boards, correct squeaks, sand high areas, and fill low areas with an appropriate Portland cement-based leveling compound.
Suspended wood subfloors must have at least 18 inches between the ground and the underside of the floor joists. Crawl spaces must remain dry, have adequate cross ventilation, and include a properly installed ground moisture barrier.
Concrete must cure for at least 90 days and pass the required moisture testing before installation. Grind down high areas and repair low spots, cracks, and holes with a Portland cement-based leveling or patching compound.
Install a minimum 6-mil polyethylene vapor barrier over the concrete. Overlap adjoining sheets by at least six inches and seal the seams with water-resistant tape.
Certain firmly bonded hard surfaces may be suitable when they are flat and properly prepared. Ceramic, porcelain, and natural-stone tile may require grout joints to be filled level. Non-cushioned resilient flooring must be fully bonded to the subfloor.
Do not install over carpet, carpet padding, cushioned vinyl, floating floors, or other unsuitable materials identified in Titan’s current instructions.
Older flooring safety: Do not sand existing vinyl or resilient flooring that could contain asbestos. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s asbestos guidance advises against sanding or disturbing suspected asbestos-containing flooring. Contact a qualified asbestos professional when appropriate.
No. Titan Surfaces water-resistant laminate includes an attached impact- and acoustic-grade underlayment. The manufacturer instructs installers not to add another padded underlayment layer beneath the flooring.
An additional soft layer may create excessive movement, interfere with the locking system, and affect the floor’s performance. A required polyethylene vapor barrier over concrete is not the same as padded underlayment and must still be installed where specified.

Measure the room before installation and calculate the width of the final row. Titan recommends avoiding a final row narrower than approximately 2.5 inches.
Choose the plank direction based on the room’s shape, longest wall, primary light source, and desired appearance. Test-lay several rows before locking the planks together, and mix boards from multiple cartons to create a balanced distribution of color and pattern.
Laminate contains wood-based material that responds to changes in humidity. Expansion space must be maintained around walls, doorframes, pipes, cabinets, and every other fixed vertical object.
T-molding is required in doorways narrower than 32 inches, where the flooring changes direction through a doorway, and in rooms measuring 50 feet or more in length or width. Transitions and wall moldings must not be fastened through the laminate.
Titan laminate uses a patented Unilin Uniclic® locking system and is installed as a floating floor. Under normal installation conditions, the planks must not be glued or mechanically fastened to the subfloor.

When a fully watertight installation is required, Titan provides additional instructions for applying a hard-setting waterproof wood adhesive along the bottom of the tongue before connecting the planks. Do not apply this method without first reading the complete manufacturer guide.
Titan laminate may be installed over certain hydronic radiant-heating systems embedded in concrete. The system must be located at least 1.5 inches below the concrete surface.
Operate the heating system at normal living temperature for 14 days before installation. Turn it off 24 hours before installation, keep it off during installation, and leave it off for 24 hours afterward.
The system must include controls that prevent the floor surface from exceeding 80°F. Electric heating mats and heating units placed directly beneath the laminate are not approved under Titan’s instructions.
Use area rugs cautiously over radiant heat because they may trap heat and raise the flooring temperature beyond the permitted limit.
Regular maintenance helps prevent loose dirt and grit from scratching the wear surface. Titan laminate does not require wax, polish, or complicated cleaning treatments.

Abrasive or residue-producing products may damage the wear surface, create unattractive smudges, or make the floor slippery.
The Uniclic® floating system can generally be disassembled by carefully lifting an entire row at an angle. Individual planks may then be separated by laying them flat and sliding them apart.
The difficulty of replacing one plank depends on its location, the size of the installation, nearby transitions, and whether perimeter sealant or waterproof adhesive was used. Consider hiring a flooring professional when the damaged plank is located in the middle of a large room.
Titan laminate is described as water-resistant, not completely waterproof. It is designed to resist ordinary topical spills when installed and maintained correctly, but it is not a moisture barrier and cannot protect the structure from leaks, flooding, or subfloor moisture.
